The Peterborough Soup Kitchen

We prepare soup, sandwiches, hot food, plus hot & cold drinks in our kitchen. These are taken by our adapted mobile serving van to Acland Street Car Park in the centre of Peterborough, postcode PE1 2AA: Acland St - Google Maps

We serve between 50 & 70 clients each day. Our principle aim is to ensure that homeless and disadvantaged people in Peterborough receive hot food and drinks each day, throughout the year, whatever the weather conditions.

We have twenty eight teams of loyal and dedicated volunteers comprising of a minimum of four members. We operate seven days per week, fifty two weeks per year; evenings Monday to Friday, and Saturday & Sunday lunchtimes. This is a substantial year-round commitment.

Our clients are the homeless and disadvantaged people of Peterborough and the surrounding area; we believe we make a vast difference to our clients.

They are male and female, young and old, with many common factors – that they are usually homeless, poor, vulnerable and very hungry.

What would I be doing if i signed up to become a volunteer?

Our volunteers are the lifeblood of our charity; without them we simply could not operate.

Upon joining us, you will be allocated either to our waiting list or to a team if a vacancy is available. All of these options will be described in more detail in the welcome email once your application is processed.

Our teams volunteer seven days a week, as follows:

  • Monday - Friday: 1800 - 2130.

  • Saturday & Sunday: 1000 - 1400.

All of our twenty eight teams volunteer to a rota, so you know in advance which dates your team is allocated to volunteer. Currently these are planned until the end of 2025. Broadly, our twenty eight teams volunteer once every four weeks.

Upon joining us you will receive a full induction, though below is a brief outline of the activities we require:

  • Preparing Soup, Sandwiches and Hot Food.

  • Driving our service van (if willing to do so and above 25 years old).

  • Stocking up the van ready for service.

  • Serving food & drink in accordance with Basic Food Hygiene.

  • Engaging with our clients, offering a general chat or signposting to other support services.
